Rome Rescue Mission Faces Unprecedented Food Shortage, Calls for Community Support in Urgent Spring Food Drive

The Rome Rescue Mission is sounding the alarm on a critical food shortage within its pantry, appealing to the community for immediate support to continue aiding those in dire need. Despite decades of unwavering service providing meals and groceries to hundreds of individuals and families daily, the Mission now faces an unprecedented scarcity of food donations.

Matt Miller, Executive Director of the Rome Rescue Mission shared the severity of the situation, stating, “This is probably the worst I have ever seen it since I’ve been here. Donations have been slipping, and we are serving more meals than ever. Sometimes we all forget how much people need food.”

Food insecurity remains a persistent challenge, worsening in recent times, pushing the Mission’s resources to the brink. The increasing demand has left the organization’s donation barrels empty, with the current food stock low.

Serving as a Christian ministry, the Rome Rescue Mission has provided shelter, food, and basic life necessities to those trapped in unsafe situations for many years. The Mission’s saying “A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out,” highlights its dedication to restoring quality of life through practical actions and compassionate outreach grounded in the love of Jesus Christ.

Currently, the Mission utilizes its dwindling supplies to serve over 200 meals daily and provide food to needy families. “Even a fully stocked pantry will only be about two weeks of food. With it being this bare, it’s maybe a couple of days of food” Miller explained further.

The Rome Rescue Mission is pleading for food donations to replenish its pantry and continue its vital work. Community members can contribute food items by dropping them off directly at the Mission or participating in the Spring Food Drive. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant difference in the lives of those who depend on the services of the Rome Rescue Mission.

Your support can turn the tide on hunger in our community. Donate now to ensure that no one goes unfed. Together, we can uphold the spirit of generosity and compassion that defines our community.

Items can be donated Monday-Friday from 9am-6pm and Saturday-Sunday from 9am-2pm. at 413 E. Dominick St, Rome. Monetary donations can be made online at
